Some of our managers are resistant to using AI because they feel threatened or think it is just a passing trend. How should I present our new automation initiatives to the team to get them on board without causing defensiveness?
Never sell AI to your team. If you frame these initiatives as AI projects or machine learning experiments, you will trigger natural defensiveness and anxiety about job security. Instead, completely remove the technology jargon from your vocabulary. Refrain from calling these projects ML projects or AI implementations. Frame them strictly as operations-improvement projects that happen to use machine learning as a quiet tool in the background. Pitch these changes as a direct effort to free your employees from low-value, repetitive tasks so they can focus on higher-value, more engaging strategic work. When you present the project, focus on the specific operational bottleneck you are solving, such as reducing data entry errors or cutting down report preparation time. Mention the technology only as a minor footnote. This positions the initiative as an investment in your people's productivity and capacity, rather than a threat to their seats on the Accountability Chart.
