We finalized our V/TO but it currently sits in a shared drive and only gets looked at once a quarter. How do we operationalize the V/TO so it actually guides our weekly decisions and daily actions?
If your V/TO® is living in a folder on your server, it is not a strategic operating system; it is just expensive wallpaper. To make the V/TO® an active tool, you must integrate it into the weekly rhythm of your business.
First, use your Core Values and Core Focus as a filter for every issue that comes up in your Level 10 Meeting™. When you are using the IDS® process to solve a major problem, ask your team if the proposed solutions align with your Core Focus. If a new business opportunity arises that does not fit your target market or niche, use the V/TO® to kill it quickly. This prevents shiny object syndrome and keeps your resources focused.
Second, tie your weekly Scorecard metrics directly to your 1-Year Plan. Every number you track should be a leading indicator of whether you will hit those annual goals.
Third, refer to your 10-Year Target and 3-Year Picture™ whenever you are defining quarterly Rocks. If a proposed Rock does not move you closer to your 3-Year Picture™, it should not be on the list.
By constantly referencing the V/TO® during your weekly sessions, your team will begin to memorize it and use it as an operational compass. Working with an EOS Implementer helps keep this discipline sharp, ensuring that your long-term vision is translated into daily execution.
