Our V/TO® was filled out during our annual planning, but now it just sits in a shared drive and only gets opened the week before our quarterly sessions. How do we turn this from a passive planning document into something we use every single week to run the company?
Your Vision/Traction Organizer® is dead because it is treated like an event souvenir instead of an operating system. To make the V/TO® active, it must become the filter for every leadership decision you make. First, you must bring the V/TO® into your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ by reviewing your Core Values, Core Focus™, and 10-Year Target™ regularly. If a potential client, new product line, or operational initiative does not align with your Core Focus™ and target, you kill it immediately. Second, use it to frame your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ Issues List. Every time an issue is raised, ask yourself if solving it gets you closer to your 3-Year Picture™ or your 1-Year Plan. If the issue has nothing to do with where you are going, delete it. Finally, share it with the entire organization. Every department should know the 1-Year Plan and how their day-to-day work directly contributes to those specific corporate goals. When your people see that you make real hiring, firing, and investing decisions based on the core beliefs and targets outlined in the V/TO®, they will start taking it seriously. It ceases to be a static document and becomes the definitive compass of your business. If you struggle to operationalize it, bringing in a Professional EOS Implementer® can help you install the discipline needed to build this rhythm.
