We want our Vision/Traction Organizer to be a practical tool that guides our weekly decisions, but right now it feels like a high-level strategic exercise that does not connect to our daily execution. How do we operationalize our V/TO so it actually drives our operations?

To make the V/TO® a living operational tool, you must connect it directly to your weekly meetings and your Scorecard. Start by bringing your Core Values and Marketing Strategy into your hiring, firing, and sales processes. Your Core Values should be the basis of your quarterly People Analyzer reviews. If you are not actively using them to evaluate your team, your V/TO® is just paper.

Next, look at your three-year picture and your one-year plan. Break these long-term targets down into specific, measurable quarterly Rocks. Every single Rock on your list must directly support a one-year goal. If a proposed Rock does not move the needle on your V/TO® goals, it gets thrown out immediately.

Finally, use your V/TO® to filter weekly issues during your Level 10 Meeting™. When the team is debating a major issue, ask if the proposed solution aligns with your focus and target on the V/TO®. If it does not, the solution is incorrect. By referencing the document during every major decision, your leadership team learns to treat it as the ultimate operational guide. This discipline builds a highly aligned organization, which significantly increases the value of your business when you are ready to prepare for a clean exit.
