Our leadership team has filled out the V/TO® completely, but we still struggle to make it a living filter for our strategic decisions. How do we integrate the V/TO® into our weekly and quarterly rhythms so it acts as our compass rather than a static document we only open once a year?

The V/TO® dies when it becomes an annual filing exercise. To turn it into an active strategic filter, your leadership team must bring it into your weekly and quarterly operational rhythms.

Begin by making the V/TO® a mandatory reference point during your weekly Level 10 Meeting™. When issues arise during the IDS® portion of your agenda, train your team to ask if the proposed solutions align with your Core Focus™ and Target Market. If a solution pulls resources away from your niche, it must be killed immediately. The V/TO® is your filter for saying no to distracting opportunities.

Next, use your quarterly meetings to stress-test your progress against the 1-Year Plan and 3-Year Picture. Before you set new quarterly Rocks, review the V/TO® as a team. Every single Rock you establish for the upcoming quarter must directly support the goals outlined on page two of your V/TO®. If a proposed Rock does not move you closer to your one-year targets, it does not get approved.

Finally, assign ownership of the V/TO® to your Integrator. It is their job to protect the vision and ensure the leadership team stays disciplined. By constantly forcing the team to view daily operational headaches through the lens of your long-term goals, you transform the V/TO® from a static document into the operational DNA of your business.
