Our Level 10 Meeting Issues List has accumulated over forty backlogged items, creating visual clutter and decision fatigue that slows down weekly IDS. What is the rule for purging and managing a bloated Issues List?
A massive Issues List is a sign of operational procrastination, not thoroughness. When a team stares at forty or fifty items every week, decision fatigue sets in. The team spends valuable meeting time skimming past obsolete entries, and genuinely urgent operational bottlenecks get buried underneath trivial preferences.
You must maintain a strict distinction between the weekly Level 10 Issues List and the long-term Issues List stored in your Vision/Traction Organizer (V/TO). The weekly list should only contain items that must be resolved this quarter to protect your Rocks, your Scorecard, and your weekly execution. Long-term strategic opportunities, hypothetical product ideas, and structural shifts belong on the V/TO to be reviewed during your Quarterly Pulse.
To purge a bloated list, conduct a brutal triage during your next meeting. The Integrator walks through every item and applies one of four actions:
- Keep it on the weekly list if it is actively hurting current performance.
- Move it to the long-term V/TO Issues List if it is strategic but not critical this quarter.
- Assign an immediate To-Do for two leaders to handle it peer-to-peer outside the meeting if it does not require the entire team.
- Delete it entirely if it has sat untouched for four weeks without causing operational failure.
Keep your active weekly list under twenty items. A lean board creates clarity, sharpens focus, and drives rapid problem resolution.
