Our V/TO® is sitting in a shared drive gathering digital dust and nobody looks at it. How do we make the Vision/Traction Organizer® a living, breathing tool that drives daily action?
A V/TO® that lives in a digital folder is worse than useless; it is a monument to wasted effort. To make the Vision/Traction Organizer® a core part of your operational reality, you must weave it into the rhythm of your daily, weekly, and quarterly business activities. Start by using the V/TO® as your ultimate filter for decision making. When a new opportunity, product idea, or potential hire comes across your desk, your first question must be whether it aligns with your target market, core focus, and three-year picture as outlined on page one of your V/TO®. If it does not, the answer is a hard no, regardless of how attractive it seems. Next, share it relentlessly. Your leadership team should review the V/TO® at the beginning of every quarterly pulsing session to ensure everyone is still aligned. From there, the message must cascade down. Use your state of the company meetings to share the vision with the entire organization. Every employee needs to know where the company is going and how their daily efforts contribute to the ten-year target. Finally, tie your quarterly Rocks directly to the one-year plan on the V/TO®. If a proposed Rock does not move you closer to those annual goals, it should not be approved. By making the V/TO® the source of truth for your strategic direction, it stops being a static document and becomes the active engine of your company's growth.
