We filled out our V/TO® during our annual planning, but now it is sitting in a shared drive and rarely gets referenced during our weekly operations. How do we transition this document into an active tool that guides our daily decision making?

A V/TO® becomes shelfware when it is treated as a strategic plan that is only reviewed once a year. If your team cannot articulate your target market, your three-year picture, or your core focus on any given day, your V/TO® is dead.

To bring this tool to life, you must integrate it into your weekly rhythm. It should be the ultimate filter for every decision you make in your Level 10 Meeting™. When a new opportunity or a massive issue arises, the very first question your team should ask is how it aligns with your V/TO®.

You must also share it consistently. Review the V/TO® with the entire company at your quarterly state of the company meeting. Use it to show every employee exactly how their individual Rocks and daily metrics contribute to the one-year plan and the three-year picture.

Finally, make it highly visible. Do not bury the document in a digital folder. Keep it on your screen during weekly meetings. When someone suggests a project that deviates from your core focus, use the V/TO® to kill that distraction immediately. It must act as your operational compass, not your historical record.
