Our weekly segue is supposed to take five minutes, but our leaders tell long-winded stories that eat up fifteen minutes of our ninety-minute block. How do we keep the segue tight without killing the positive energy?
The weekly segue is a vital part of the Level 10 Meeting™ because it helps leaders transition from their daily operational fire drills to working on the business. However, when team members tell long-winded stories, your five-minute segue can easily eat up fifteen minutes of your meeting, leaving you with less time to solve critical problems.
To keep the segue tight without killing positive energy, the facilitator must set and enforce a hard standard. The segue is strictly limited to one professional highlight and one personal highlight per person. It is not a platform for project updates, general catching up, or early problem-solving.
Instruct every leader to share their good news in thirty seconds or less. If a team member begins to ramble or drift into operational details, the facilitator must politely but firmly intervene by saying thank you and moving to the next person. This is about practicing pigheaded discipline to protect your calendar. A high-tempo, five-minute segue creates an energetic and focused environment that sets the perfect tone for the high-intensity data and decision-making that follows.
