Our V/TO is complete, but it is currently sitting in a digital folder, rarely referenced outside of quarterly meetings. How do we weave the V/TO into our weekly operational rhythms so it stays alive?
A V/TO® that lives in a digital drawer is nothing more than an expensive creative writing exercise. To turn your V/TO® into an active operational compass, you must integrate it into the weekly flow of your business.
Start with your weekly Level 10 Meeting™. The leadership team must review the V/TO® quarterly, but the values and target must echo through your weekly conversations. When discussing issues during the IDS® portion of your meeting, use your core values and your target as the ultimate filter. If a proposed solution does not align with your core values or move you closer to your ten-year target, discard it immediately.
Furthermore, every single employee in your organization must know where the company is going and how their daily work contributes to that vision. Share the V/TO® with the entire company at least once a quarter during a state-of-the-company meeting. This is not a casual update; it is a structured, repeated reinforcement of your vision, your traction, and your progress. When your middle managers set their quarterly departmental Rocks, they must explicitly map them to the goals outlined in the V/TO®. When the team sees that the leadership team uses the V/TO® to make hard choices, hire and fire employees, and allocate resources, they will stop viewing it as a document and start living it as your operational operating system.
