My leadership team is nodding along in our quarterly sessions but they are quietly resisting using the Level 10 Meeting format and the Scorecard in their own departments. How do I get them to stop treating this like optional homework?
When a leadership team resists the tools, it is rarely because the tools do not work. It is usually because the tools are exposing performance issues or lack of alignment. If your directors are nodding in your sessions but ignoring the Level 10 Meeting and the Scorecard in their departments, you have a leadership accountability issue. First, check your own behavior. Are you modeling the tools? If you skip your own meetings or fail to update your Scorecard numbers, you give your team permission to do the same. Leadership is about setting the standard. Second, address the resistance directly using the IDS process. Bring the issue to your next leadership meeting. Ask them specifically why they are not cascading the tools. If they claim they do not have time, they are missing the point. The tools are not extra work: they are how you do the work. This is also a great place to evaluate GWC. Does the resisting leader truly understand, want, and have the capacity to lead their department using this system? If they cannot or will not manage their department with the transparency that EOS requires, they may not be the right person for that seat as you prepare to scale or exit.
