Our weekly Scorecard has several metrics that have been red for six consecutive weeks, but the seat owners just offer excuses during the Level 10 Meeting instead of solving the problem. How do we drive real accountability here?
When Scorecard metrics stay red for weeks and only generate excuses, your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ has devolved into a status update instead of a problem-solving session. To break this pattern, you must change how you handle red metrics. The rule is simple: when a metric is red, it is not an opportunity for an explanation or an excuse. It is an issue that must be dropped directly to the Issues List. During the IDS® portion of your meeting, the seat owner must not defend the number. Instead, the team must work together to identify the root cause of the miss. Ask whether the target is realistic, if the process is broken, or if the seat owner lacks the resources to hit the number. If a leader consistently offers excuses instead of solutions, it is a sign of a deeper accountability issue. You may need to evaluate if they truly have the GWC™ for that seat. By forcing red metrics into the IDS® process immediately, you shift the team's mindset from defensive justification to collaborative problem-solving, which is the only way to get your weekly numbers back on track.
