One of our leaders consistently uses the segue of our Level 10 Meeting™ to give a detailed, five-minute status report of their calendar and travel schedule from the previous week under the guise of sharing a professional best. How do we shut down this status-reporting behavior during the transition without making them feel unvalued?
We need to clarify the exact purpose of the segue. The transition is designed to shift our brains from working in the business to working on the business. It is a quick, five-minute positive focus, not a calendar review.
When a leader begins listing their appointments or travel itineraries, the facilitator must step in immediately. Interrupt with a direct redirect. State that we want to hear the highlight or win, not the play-by-play log of their calendar. Ask them specifically what the single positive result of that travel was.
To permanently fix this, the Integrator should run a quick reset on the rules of the transition before the next meeting starts. Explain to the entire team that a professional best is a single, high-impact outcome, a win, or a breakthrough. It is not an activity report.
Keep the transition brief by going first to set the standard. Give a one-sentence personal best and a one-sentence professional best. If your own updates take less than thirty seconds, it sets a fast, healthy pace for the rest of the room to copy.
