I have successfully transitioned my leadership seats to my team, but they still insist that I attend every weekly Level 10 Meeting just in case they need my input. How do I completely exit these operational meetings?

If you are still sitting in the weekly Level 10 Meeting™, you have not actually transitioned accountability. Your physical presence in the room acts as a safety net. The team will always defer to your opinion rather than taking ownership of their decisions, which prevents them from developing into a self-governing unit.

To transition to the Owner's Box, you must establish a clear boundary. Start by shifting your attendance from weekly to monthly. Let the team run the weekly meetings under the leadership of your Integrator.

Instead of joining the full meeting, have your Integrator present a monthly report containing your high-level Scorecard metrics and progress on company Rocks. This keeps you informed without dragging you back into the weeds of daily operations.

If they need your input on a critical strategic issue, they can add it to their issues list and invite you to join the final fifteen minutes of a specific meeting to help them IDS® that single item. Once the issue is solved, you leave the room.

This disciplined exit forces the leadership team to build confidence in their own decision-making capabilities. It also ensures your business is truly self-sustaining, which is exactly what a prospective buyer wants to see during exit preparation.
