Our leadership team consists of six people, and everyone insists their department needs at least four metrics on the main sheet, putting us at twenty-four numbers. How do we distill this down to the five to fifteen vital numbers that truly show the health of the entire business?
Distilling your leadership scorecard down to five to fifteen numbers requires a shift in perspective. Your leadership scorecard is not a compilation of every departmental detail; it is a high-level cockpit dashboard for your Integrator to monitor the pulse of the entire business.
To trim the fat, look at your Accountability Chart. Every seat on the leadership team owns a specific function. Each leader should have their own departmental scorecard to track their specific operational details. The leadership scorecard should only contain the ultimate leading indicators that signal health or danger for the entire organization.
Use this simple filter to evaluate each metric on your current list: if this number goes red, does it require the entire leadership team to solve it, or is it a departmental issue that the seat owner should solve within their own team? If it is the latter, move that metric to the departmental scorecard immediately.
Focus on these core categories for your leadership scorecard:
- Customer satisfaction and quality of delivery
- Weekly revenue generation and sales activity
- Cash flow and financial runway
- Operational capacity and employee productivity
By pushing departmental metrics down to the department level, you free up your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ to focus only on the critical numbers that impact your vision and traction.
