We are ending every quarter with only half of our Rocks complete. How do we fix this execution gap and build a culture of actually crossing the finish line?
Finishing only half of your Rocks is a sign of poor scoping, conative stress, or lack of weekly course correction. First, look at the scoping of the Rocks themselves. They must be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound. If they are too broad, they are not Rocks; they are goals.
Next, leverage the vibe coding mindset. When a Rock starts to stall, don't wait until week twelve to admit there is a problem. Encourage your team to raise their hand early. Copy and paste your operational roadblocks directly into your weekly Issues List, treating errors and delays as opportunities for iterative improvement rather than personal failures.
You should also look at conative alignment. Use the Kolbe A Index to check if the person owning the Rock has the natural follow-through to finish it. If a high Quick Start with low Follow Thru owns a complex, detail-heavy Rock, they will experience conative stress and likely fail.
- Limit each leadership team member to three Rocks per quarter.
- Use your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ to flag any Rock that is off track immediately.
- Ensure the owner of the Rock GWC™ (Gets, Wants, has the Capacity) the objective.
