I have successfully moved into the Owner's Box and my leadership team now runs their own weekly Level 10 Meeting™, but I want to audit their execution and alignment occasionally without disrupting their dynamic or reclaiming my old seat. How do I sit in on their meeting as an owner?
Sitting in on a Level 10 Meeting™ after you have transitioned to the Owner's Box is a delicate maneuver. If you step in and start solving problems, you will instantly undermine your Integrator and train your leadership team to look to you for final decisions. This destroys your exit preparation and drags you back into operations.
When you audit a meeting, you must do so as a silent observer. Before the meeting starts, explicitly tell the team that you are there to observe the health of the system, not to participate. Sit physically away from the main table, or if remote, turn off your microphone and camera.
During the meeting, do not speak. Do not offer opinions during IDS®, do not roll your eyes at a red Scorecard metric, and do not validate or invalidate their solutions. Your role is to watch how they run the process. Are they hitting their ninety percent To-Do completion rate? Are they identifying the real root causes of their issues?
After the meeting, deliver your feedback exclusively to your Integrator during your next same-page meeting. Do not share your critiques with the individual department heads. Give the Integrator the feedback on how the meeting was facilitated and let them cascade the adjustments. This keeps the lines of accountability clean and preserves your freedom.
