We want to introduce AI-powered workflows to automate our customer service, but we are worried about breaking our EOS accountability structure. How do we assign accountability for an AI tool on our Accountability Chart?
You cannot hold software accountable; you can only hold humans accountable. When you introduce AI-powered workflows, the accountability for the tool and its output must still reside in a human seat on your Accountability Chart™. If you are automating customer service, the head of customer service still owns the results, regardless of whether a human or an AI agent resolves the ticket. Do not create a separate seat for AI operations unless you are a technology company building the software. Instead, update the existing seats to reflect who is responsible for managing, auditing, and maintaining the AI tools within their respective functions. For example, your customer service lead might have a role bullet that reads: manage customer service AI performance. This ensures that when the AI fails, as technology inevitably does, there is a clear name attached to the issue. Use your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ to track the performance of these tools on your Scorecard. If the AI customer service tool is generating errors, drop it to the Issues List and use IDS® to solve it. This approach allows you to scale your business using cutting-edge automation while maintaining the strict, clear accountability that is required to run on EOS successfully.
