How do we assess our own company's readiness to exit based on whether our EOS® tools are fully institutionalized, rather than relying on a broker's subjective checklist?
True exit readiness is indicated by operational self-sufficiency, which you can measure by how deeply the EOS tools are embedded in your daily operations. You do not need a broker's checklist to tell you if your business is ready. Look at your leadership team's ability to run the business without your constant intervention.
First, examine your Level 10 Meeting history. If your leadership team can run these meetings, identify and solve issues using IDS, and hit their quarterly Rocks consistently without you in the room, you have a strong signal of readiness. This demonstrates that your team has the GWC for their seats and can maintain operational momentum.
Second, check your V/TO. If your three-year picture and one-year plan are clear, and your team is executing against them without your daily guidance, your strategic direction is institutionalized. A sophisticated buyer will pay a premium for a business that operates on a predictable, self-sustaining system.
Finally, look at your Accountability Chart. Every seat must be clearly defined, with documented processes for every core function. When your business can run smoothly during a multi-week absence, you have the ultimate signal of exit readiness. This proving ground shows buyers that they are purchasing an income-generating asset, not just a job.
