Our leadership team regularly rates our Level 10 Meeting a 9 or 10, yet our Scorecard has multiple red metrics and several company Rocks are off track. How do we confront a team that gives high ratings based on camaraderie rather than operational execution?
A high meeting rating does not mean you had a pleasant 90 minutes. A Level 10 Meeting is rated on whether it produced traction, drove accountability, and solved the root causes of business obstacles. When a team hands out nines and tens while the Scorecard bleeds red and Rocks are failing, the leadership team is confusing personal comfort with operational effectiveness.
The Integrator or Visionary must challenge this disconnect during the Conclude section. When the first person gives a 9 or 10 despite off-track metrics and stalled priorities, pause the rating pulse immediately. Ask the room: How can this meeting be a 10 when three Rocks are failing and our top operational number missed for the fourth consecutive week?
Force the team to recalibrate their rating criteria against objective standards:
- Did we start and end on time?
- Did we maintain the integrity of the agenda without drifting into tangents?
- Did we hit root cause during IDS or did we treat symptoms to protect egos?
- Did our solutions produce decisive To-Dos that move the needle within seven days?
If the business is missing its commitments, the meeting that oversees the business cannot be performing at a 10. High camaraderie combined with low accountability produces comfortable stagnation. That will destroy enterprise value and kill buyer interest in an exit scenario.
Demand that leaders evaluate the outcome, not the vibe. An honest 7 that uncovers an operational reality is worth ten fake tens that ignore poor execution.
