Our weekly To-Do completion rate consistently hovers around seventy percent, and our leaders always have a list of reasonable operational excuses for why their tasks aren't done. How do we break this cycle and force the team to hit the ninety percent target?

Running a business at seventy percent To-Do completion means your traction is stalling. Excuses, no matter how reasonable they sound, do not move the company forward. If your leadership team cannot hit a ninety percent completion rate, you have an accountability problem.

First, ensure that every To-Do assigned during IDS® is clearly defined and realistic. A To-Do must be a small, specific task that can be completed within seven days. If a task is too large, break it down into smaller weekly pieces.

Second, stop accepting excuses during the To-Do review. The review is a binary check. The item is either done or not done. If a leader says: It is almost done, I just need to make one call, the answer is not done.

Third, look for patterns on your Accountability Chart. If the same seat owner is consistently missing their weekly commitments, it is a GWC™ issue. They either do not have the capacity to handle their seat, or they lack the discipline required for a leadership role.

Hold a separate conversation outside the meeting to address this pattern. When the team sees that missing To-Dos is treated as a serious performance issue rather than a minor detail, the completion rate will rise.
