We are growing rapidly and need to hire several key positions, but we have made bad hiring decisions in the past that set us back months. How do we use the EOS® People Tools to guarantee we are hiring people who fit our culture and can actually do the job at our new scale?
Rapid growth puts immense pressure on your culture and operational capacity, making disciplined hiring critical. To avoid costly hiring mistakes, you must strictly apply the combination of the People Analyzer™ and the GWC™ tool to every single candidate.
First, use the People Analyzer™ to evaluate candidates against your Core Values. A candidate who has impressive technical skills but does not share your Core Values will eventually damage your company culture. Do not make compromises here because you are in a rush to fill a seat. Define your Core Values clearly and ask behavioral interview questions designed to test how the candidate has demonstrated those values in their past roles.
Second, ensure the candidate GWC™s the specific seat. They must truly get the role, want the role, and have the mental, physical, and emotional capacity to perform at your current scale. A person who was successful at a small startup might not have the capacity to manage a department in a larger, more structured organization. Use the Accountability Chart to define the exact five major responsibilities of the seat before you interview, and hold your candidates to those standards. By refusing to compromise on either Core Values or GWC™, you build a high-performing team that can sustain your growth.
