Our outbound sales model generates high volumes of raw activities, but our scorecard feels cluttered with micro-steps. How do we distill a high-velocity sales funnel into just two or three high-impact scorecard numbers?
High-volume outbound sales models generate massive amounts of activity data, including cold calls, emails, LinkedIn messages, and follow-ups. If you try to track every single one of these micro-steps on your leadership scorecard, your sheet will become cluttered and useless. You will suffer from data noise and miss the macro trends.
To simplify, you must identify the key bottleneck in your sales funnel and measure the critical conversion point. Usually, high-volume sales models have one primary action that actually predicts revenue. It is rarely the raw number of emails sent, which can easily be automated and gamed. Instead, it is the number of meaningful conversations or scheduled demo appointments.
To clean up your scorecard, distill your sales metrics into just three high-impact numbers:
- Pipeline input, such as the number of new qualified leads assigned to reps weekly
- Bottleneck velocity, which is the number of initial discovery calls completed
- Forward-momentum indicator, such as the total dollar value of proposals submitted weekly
If discovery calls are high and proposals are moving, the raw outreach activities are taking care of themselves. Keep the micro-activities on individual rep scorecards, but keep the leadership scorecard focused on overall funnel health.
