One of our highest-performing leadership team members constantly pushes back on using our EOS tools, claiming that filling out the Scorecard and tracking Rocks is beneath them and slows them down. How do we get this high-performer aligned without losing their revenue contribution?

When a high performer resists the tools, you have a classic culture versus performance dilemma. This person believes their past success exempts them from the operating system. If you tolerate this, you tell the rest of the company that your core values and processes are optional for those who bring in money. This kills organizational trust.

First, separate their individual production from their role as a leader. A leader on your Accountability Chart must lead, manage, and hold others accountable. If they refuse to use the tools, they are failing in their leadership seat.

Sit down with them outside of your regular meetings for a direct conversation. Frame the issue around the company's scalability, not their personal preferences. Explain that their resistance is setting a standard of non-compliance for the entire organization.

Give them a choice. They can either fully commit to the EOS® tools and lead by example, or they can step out of the leadership seat and transition into an individual contributor role. You can still keep their production, but they can no longer sit on the leadership team.

If they reject both options, you have a Core Values or GWC™ issue. Keeping a brilliant jerk who refuses to play by the rules will ultimately cap your growth and prevent you from building a scalable, exit-ready business. You must be prepared to make the hard call.
