We are in our initial rollout phase and several legacy leadership team members are actively pushing back, claiming that the EOS tools are bureaucratic and slow them down. How do we handle this vocal resistance without damaging morale?
Active resistance is actually easier to solve than passive compliance because it brings the real issues to light. Legacy leaders often push back because they feel exposed. The transparency of a weekly Scorecard and a clear Accountability Chart means there is nowhere to hide.
To handle this vocal resistance, you must first separate the person from the seat. Sit down with the resisting leader and walk through the GWC™ tool. Do they truly understand their role, do they want it, and do they have the capacity to do it?
Next, hold them accountable to the team, not just to you. During your Level 10 Meeting™ sessions, let the data do the talking. If their weekly metrics are consistently off track or their quarterly Rocks are incomplete, the problem is not the tools. The problem is execution.
Make it clear that the operating system is non-negotiable. Explain that these disciplines exist to scale the business and protect the entire team, not to create busywork. If a legacy leader refuses to adopt the tools after clear coaching, they do not share your core values or fit the culture you are building. You must be prepared to make the hard structural decision to protect the health of your organization.
