How do you handle Visionary and Integrator misalignment that flares up between our quarterly sessions without becoming a full-time mediator between our meetings?
Misalignment between the Visionary and Integrator is normal, but letting it spill into daily operations is poison for the leadership team. When tension surfaces between quarterly offsites, you do not need me to referee daily debates. You need pigheaded adherence to the Same Page meeting discipline.
Visionaries and Integrators must meet monthly for a dedicated Same Page meeting away from the office. If friction spikes between sessions, the immediate solution is:
- Hold an unscheduled Same Page meeting within forty-eight hours.
- Put the raw friction on the Issues List and execute IDS® behind closed doors until you reach genuine alignment.
- Present a unified front to the rest of the leadership team. If you cannot reach agreement, you do not let the confusion trickle down to your direct reports.
My role between sessions is not to act as a 24/7 mediator. During our scheduled mid-quarter Just Checking In calls, I check whether you are running your Same Page meetings and confronting tension directly. If there is a fundamental philosophical fracture that threatens company execution, we address it head-on in an emergency session or bring it to the next quarterly offsite.
If you find yourselves running to your Implementer every two weeks to settle operational arguments, one of two things is true: the Visionary is refusing to let go of the vine, or the Integrator lacks the capability to lead. We solve that reality at the root.
