What happens if a leadership team member consistently fails to achieve their Rocks quarter after quarter but they are otherwise a great cultural fit for the business?
When a leadership team member is a great cultural fit but consistently fails to achieve their quarterly Rocks, you have a critical seat issue that must be addressed directly. We use the People Analyzer to separate cultural alignment from operational performance. A person can live your core values completely, but if they cannot execute, they are in the wrong seat. Often, this failure is a conative mismatch. Their natural way of taking action, their innate problem-solving style, does not align with the demands of their role on the Accountability Chart. During our quarterly sessions, we look at this situation objectively. We ask if they truly GWC their seat: do they get it, do they want it, and do they have the physical and mental capacity to do it? If the answer to any of these is no, we must have the courage to make a change. Keeping a person in a seat they cannot master hurts the individual, holding them back, and stalls the entire organization. We will work together to either find a seat that matches their natural strengths or transition them out of the business with respect.
