Our top-performing operations head consistently delivers great results but refuses to adhere to our core values, creating a cultural double standard that is demoralizing the rest of the leadership team. How do we handle this without risking our daily execution?
A high-performing leader who violates your Core Values is a cancer in your organization. If you tolerate their toxic behavior because you are afraid of losing their operational expertise, you are telling the rest of your company that results matter more than integrity. This completely destroys the Trust pillar of Our Charter. You must address this cultural double standard immediately. Use your Core Values as non-negotiable filters. Schedule a private meeting and mirror back their specific behaviors that violate your values, such as failing to be Humbly-Confident or refusing to practice a Help First mindset. Be direct and clear. Explain that while their technical performance is outstanding, their behavior is damaging the team. Give them a clear, thirty-day timeline to turn it around. To mitigate the risk to your daily execution during this transition, start preparing immediately. Update your Accountability Chart and identify who can step in to cover their roles if they choose to leave or if you have to let them go. If their behavior does not change within thirty days, you must part ways swiftly. Protecting your culture is always worth the short-term operational disruption.
