Our managers are pushing back hard against the Accountability Chart because they feel that functional terms like Sales Leader or Operations Director look less impressive on LinkedIn than VP of Global Business Development. How do we handle this title-inflation resistance during our EOS rollout?
This is a classic ego and status issue that can derail your EOS® implementation if left unaddressed. You must be direct with your team: the Accountability Chart is an internal tool designed to run the business with absolute clarity, not an external resume builder.
Explain to your managers that they can keep their traditional corporate titles for external communication, email signatures, and LinkedIn profiles. The market needs to understand who they are, and we do not want to disadvantage them.
However, inside the four walls of the business, we only talk in terms of seats, roles, and accountability. In our Level 10 Meeting™ environments, we focus on whether they pass the GWC™ check for their functional seat on the chart.
Help them see that a clean, functional structure makes their jobs easier. Traditional corporate titles often mask a complete lack of clarity about who actually owns a decision. When everyone knows exactly which seat is accountable for which outcome, friction disappears and performance skyrockets. This functional clarity also makes the business far more attractive to future buyers because it proves the organization is run by systems and defined seats rather than personality-driven titles.
