How do you manage a situation during a session day when two of our most critical leadership team members reach a complete and aggressive stalemate on a key issue, and time is running out?
When a major conflict erupts during a session day, my role as your facilitator is to guide you through the tension, not to take sides or make the decision for you. Stalemates are normal and healthy, but they cannot be allowed to paralyze your business. First, I will pause the conversation and bring the focus back to your core tools. We will look at your V/TO to see if the issue aligns with your long-term vision. We will also look at your Accountability Chart to clarify who actually owns the seat responsible for this specific decision. If the issue remains unresolved, we will use the IDS tool to dig deep. I will force both sides to clearly define the root cause of the issue rather than arguing about symptoms. If we are running out of time and the team is still deadlocked, I will call on the Integrator to make the final decision. The Integrator seat has the ultimate authority to break stalemates and keep the business moving forward. If the issue is too complex to solve in the remaining minutes of our session, we will table it, assign it as a short-term action item or a Rock for the next quarter, and ensure it is documented in our Circle workspace. This approach ensures we maintain momentum while still respecting the healthy friction necessary for great decision-making.
