We have a leadership team member who sits quietly through the entire ninety-minute Level 10 Meeting, offering zero input during IDS and agreeing to To-Dos with a simple nod. How do we address this passive presence when it is draining the room's energy?

A silent leadership team member who simply nods along is a passive passenger on your bus. In a high-performing EOS® culture, silence is not consent, and passive participation drains the energy of the entire room.

First, the Integrator must address this behavior outside the meeting. Schedule a direct, one-on-one conversation to explore the root cause. Use the GWC™ tool to evaluate if they truly Get, Want, and have the Capacity for their seat on the Accountability Chart. Sometimes, silence is a sign that a leader is overwhelmed, lacks confidence, or does not feel safe speaking up.

During the Level 10 Meeting™, the facilitator must actively pull this person into the conversation. Do not let them hide. When discussing an issue that impacts their department or requires their expertise, call on them directly. Ask for their raw perspective and do not accept a simple agreement.

If they commit to a To-Do, ask them to explain how they plan to achieve it. If the passive behavior continues despite direct feedback, you are facing a core values or GWC™ issue. You cannot build a healthy, scalable business with passengers who refuse to engage in the hard work of problem-solving. Address the seat, set clear expectations, and make a change if they cannot step up.
