How do you handle a situation where our leadership team wants to postpone an upcoming quarterly session because we are overwhelmed with day-to-day client work?

Wanting to postpone a session because the business is overwhelmed is the clearest proof that the session must proceed as scheduled. When client fires, operational bottlenecks, or staff shortages cause a team to consider pushing their quarterly offsite, they are treating the symptoms of a poorly run operation while sacrificing the cure.

Postponing a session destroys the operational cadence. EOS operates on a 90-day execution pulse. When you delay a session by three or four weeks, your quarterly Rocks lose their urgency, accountability evaporates, and your team spends two months wandering in reactive mode.

If your business cannot survive for eight hours without the leadership team responding to client emails, your business is fragile. We will use that exact operational pain as fuel for the day.

When a client approaches me to postpone, my response is simple: show up on time. We will immediately add the day-to-day chaos to the Issues List and IDS® why the business is so dependent on the leadership team for basic survival. We use the tools, the Accountability Chart, and delegation exercises to fix the bottleneck permanently.

The only legitimate reasons to reschedule a session are a true family emergency or a sudden, catastrophic legal or health crisis. Being busy with client work is not an emergency. It is an operational issue that demands eight hours of uninterrupted focus in the session room.
