My co-founder and I frequently disagree on major strategic decisions. How do you handle partner misalignment during our session days without derailing the rest of the leadership team?

Partner conflict is one of the most common reasons leadership teams fail to build traction. During our session days, I do not act as a marriage counselor, but I do enforce strict rules of engagement to ensure your personal disagreements do not derail the team. We establish Our Charter before our very first Focus Day, aligning all partners on a foundational covenant of trust and mutual respect. If a deep strategic disagreement arises during a session, we capture it on the Issues List and address it using the IDS process. This forces both partners to step out of their personal egos and analyze the issue objectively through the lens of the company's long-term V/TO and Core Values. We look at what is best for the business, not what is best for the individual partners. If the conflict requires deep, sensitive alignment that cannot be resolved within the session agenda, we take a Strategic Pause and schedule a separate partner alignment meeting. We do not allow unresolved partner disputes to paralyze the rest of the leadership team during our quarterly sessions. By keeping the session focused on objective, structured decision-making, we protect the team's momentum and maintain operational progress.
