What happens if we hit a massive operational crisis three weeks before our scheduled quarterly session with you? Do we pull forward our session day to address the emergency, or how do you help us leverage our current EOS tools to handle the panic internally?
When a major operational crisis hits, the natural impulse of many leadership teams is to panic, cancel their schedules, and call for an emergency strategy day. However, this reaction is often a form of psychological resistance, which distracts you from the exact tools designed to solve the problem. In almost every scenario, we do not pull your quarterly session day forward.
Instead, we use your existing EOS® tools to manage the emergency in real time. Your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ is your primary battleground for crises. During this meeting, you should immediately drop the emergency onto your Issues List. You then use the IDS® process to identify the root cause, discuss the immediate solutions, and assign specific, short-term actions to resolve it.
If the crisis requires daily coordination, you can temporarily establish a brief daily stand-up meeting with a hyper-focused agenda, but you must keep your weekly rhythm intact. This disciplined approach represents a strategic pause, forcing your team to stay calm, rely on their defined roles on the Accountability Chart, and execute under pressure. By the time we reach your scheduled quarterly session, we will use that day to review how the crisis was handled, update your V/TO®, and set new Rocks to prevent it from happening again.
