During our Level 10 Meeting™ segue, one of our leaders consistently shares personal bests that are actually heavy personal problems or venting sessions, which instantly drags down the room's energy. How do we keep the segue positive and fast without policing their personal lives?

The segue is designed to transition your team's brains from running the business to working on the business. It must start on a high note. When a leader uses this time to vent about personal hardships, health issues, or domestic frustrations, it injects heavy, negative energy into the room right at the start of your Level 10 Meeting™.

To fix this, the facilitator must enforce the definition of a personal best. A personal best is a positive highlight from your life outside of work. It is not an update on your struggles or an invitation for group therapy. If a leader begins to dump negative personal baggage, the facilitator must immediately and gently intervene. You can say, we are sorry to hear that, but let us keep the segue focused on positive highlights. What is one positive thing that went well for you this week?

Do not allow the team to ask follow-up questions or offer sympathy during the segue. This keeps the meeting moving and prevents the negative energy from taking root. If a team member truly needs support, that conversation must happen outside the ninety minutes of your weekly meeting pulse. Keep the segue strictly limited to five minutes total. Every leader shares one quick professional best and one quick personal best, and then you immediately move to the Scorecard. This discipline protects the emotional environment of your meeting.
