We are highly ambitious, but we are terrified of falling short. What happens if our leadership team fails to hit our quarterly Rocks or misses our key scorecard metrics?
Failure is data, not a permanent label. In the EOS® framework, our target is to complete at least eighty percent of our Rocks each quarter. If your team falls short, we do not engage in finger-pointing or accept passive excuses. During our quarterly session, we treat the missed goals as a concrete experience. We step back for reflective observation to analyze why the miss occurred. Was it an issue of capacity, unrealistic planning, or did operational emergencies drain your white space? We use these insights to form an abstract conceptualization of how to improve your processes. We adjust the planning for the next ninety days, which is active experimentation. We also look at whether we need to shift our language from trying to hit targets to being accountable owners who do not let details slide. This discipline builds a healthier, more resilient leadership team.
