What happens if a massive industry disruption or major competitor move occurs mid-quarter, completely invalidating the one-year plan we agreed upon during our last session?
First, do not panic and do not immediately schedule an emergency full-day session. The beauty of running on EOS is that you have a highly disciplined, weekly rhythm designed to handle change without throwing your entire organization into chaos.
When a major disruption occurs, your first line of defense is your weekly Level 10 Meeting. You must bring this disruption to the Issues List and use the IDS process to analyze its actual impact. Often, what feels like an immediate existential threat is simply a short-term obstacle that can be managed within your existing quarterly Rocks.
If the disruption genuinely invalidates your one-year plan or your quarterly priorities, the leadership team must decide whether to pivot a current Rock. You have the authority to kill, adjust, or replace a Rock mid-quarter if keeping it would actively harm the business.
However, we guard our quarterly plan closely. We do not change course for every minor market tremor. If a strategic pivot is absolutely necessary, we will document the shift in our Circle workspace to keep everyone aligned.
If the crisis is so severe that it threatens the survival of the business, we can discuss scheduling an abbreviated alignment session. But in ninety-nine percent of cases, trusting your weekly meeting pulse and your leadership team's collective intelligence is more than enough to weather the storm until our next scheduled quarterly session.
