One of our key leadership team members is a brilliant strategist, but they consistently refuse to update their scorecard metrics or document their processes, claiming that EOS® is just unnecessary administrative busywork. How do we get them to buy into the system?
A leader who refuses to run the EOS® system is a direct threat to your team's cohesion and your business's scaling goals. When one leader decides the rules do not apply to them, it sends a message to the entire organization that accountability is optional.
You must address this issue head-on. Start by identifying the root cause of their resistance. Often, a leader who resists scorecards or documented processes is hiding performance issues or fears being micromanaged. Explain that the scorecard is not a tool for micromanagement, it is an early-warning system that allows the team to support them before issues become crises.
Remind them of your core values. If one of your values is accountability or teamwork, their refusal to use the tools is a core values violation. Let them know that as a leadership team member, they must lead by example. If they do not run the system, their direct reports will not run the system, and your operational consistency will crumble.
Make using the EOS® tools a non-negotiable requirement for their seat. If they continue to resist, they are telling you they do not GWC™ their role. You must be prepared to replace them with someone who embraces accountability.
