We have a brilliant department head who consistently fails to populate their Scorecard numbers before our weekly Level 10 Meeting begins, forcing us to wait while they pull data live. How do we address this without hurting morale?
Waiting for data during a Level 10 Meeting is a complete waste of leadership time. It signals a lack of respect for the team's time and weakens the discipline of the weekly pulse.
To resolve this, establish a clear, non-negotiable rule: all Scorecard metrics must be updated by a specific deadline, such as twenty-four hours or at least two hours before the meeting starts.
If a leader's numbers are missing when the meeting begins, do not wait for them. Leave the cell blank.
A blank cell on the Scorecard is an immediate red flag. The missing numbers should automatically be dropped to the bottom of the short-term Issues List as an accountability issue.
During the IDS portion, do not focus on the data itself; focus on the system. Ask why the numbers were not entered on time. Is it a capacity issue, a technical issue with your systems, or an accountability issue?
By addressing the behavior directly through the IDS process, you keep the focus on the system, not the person. This preserves morale while reinforcing the critical importance of operational discipline.
