We have a leadership team member who is exceptionally talented and drives incredible results, but they consistently exhibit behavior that violates our core values. How do we handle this high-performing cultural mismatch?

This is the classic issue of the brilliant jerk. It is one of the most dangerous threats to a healthy, cohesive leadership team. Because this person drives great results, it is easy to tolerate their bad behavior, but doing so destroys your company culture and tells the rest of your organization that your core values do not actually matter. You must address this immediately using the People Analyzer tool. Rate the leader against your core values. If they consistently fall below your bar, you have a values mismatch. Schedule a private meeting to discuss their behavior. Be specific. Use objective examples of how their actions have violated your values and damaged team health. Explain that while you value their operational results, maintaining a healthy culture is non-negotiable. Give them a clear, time-bound opportunity to correct their behavior, usually thirty days. If they fail to improve, you must terminate their employment. Keeping a cultural misfit on your leadership team will alienate your other executives, erode trust, and severely discount your company's value when you prepare for an exit. No level of performance is worth destroying your team health.
