We have a high-performing department head who is hitting all their targets but absolutely refuses to participate in our new Level 10 Meetings™ or update their Scorecard. How do we handle this passive resistance without losing their critical operational output?

Allowing a high performer to opt out of your operating system is a fatal mistake that will eventually rot your company culture. It sends a message to the rest of your leadership team that accountability is optional for some and mandatory for others, which destroys trust and halts your EOS® implementation.

You must address this issue directly using the People Analyzer™ tool. This individual may be a right person in the wrong seat, or they may be a wrong person for your organization altogether. If they refuse to adopt the EOS® tools, they do not share your core value of accountability, which means they do not fit your culture.

Schedule a private meeting to discover the root cause of their resistance. Often, high performers resist because they fear the transparency of a public Scorecard or view the Level 10 Meeting™ as an administrative waste of time. Explain that the tools are not designed to micromanage them, but to give them autonomy and protect their time.

If they still refuse to align after coaching, you must make the difficult decision to transition them out of the company. No matter how strong their operational numbers are, keeping a toxic, non-compliant leader will cap your company's growth and prevent you from building a scalable, exit-ready business.
