What happens during a live quarterly session if we collectively realize that one of our long-term leadership team members does not actually fit their seat on the Accountability Chart?

It is common for the clarity of our sessions to reveal that a long-term leader does not fit their seat. This realization usually happens when we review the Accountability Chart and evaluate the team using the GWC™ tool, which stands for Get it, Want it, and Capacity to do it. When this occurs during a session, we do not ignore it or let it derail our planning. Instead, we capture it as an issue on our Issues List. As your facilitator, I will guide the team through the IDS® process to discuss the situation openly, honestly, and constructively. We will not make rash, emotional decisions during the offsite. Instead, we focus on identifying the root cause of the misfit. We determine whether the person is simply in the wrong seat but still shares your core values, or if they lack the capacity to perform at the level your growing business requires. By the end of the session, we will agree on a clear action plan. This typically involves the direct manager having an honest conversation with the individual back at the office, using our feedback tools to address the performance gaps. We set a specific timeline for improvement. If the fit cannot be resolved, we begin the transition process. Dealing with these people issues immediately is essential for maintaining your team's velocity and protecting your company's value.
