Our newly promoted VP of Operations is still acting like a traditional hierarchical boss, bypassing our Accountability Chart and directing people in other departments without consulting their peers. How do we curb this rogue behavior before it destroys our cross-departmental trust?
Bypassing the Accountability Chart is a fast track to destroying executive trust and creating organizational chaos. When a leader goes rogue, it sends a message that the rules of your operating system do not apply to them.
To resolve this, the Integrator must have a direct conversation with the VP of Operations. Use the GWC filter to address this behavior. While they may have the skills for the role, their current actions show they do not fully get or want the collaborative nature of the seat.
Show them the impact of their actions. Bypassing peers to direct other departments causes confusion, destroys accountability, and breeds resentment. Revisit the clear roles and responsibilities defined on your Accountability Chart. Reiterate that leadership team members must lead by example and respect the boundaries of each seat.
If the behavior continues, address it in your Level 10 Meeting as a systemic issue using the IDS process. Frame the discussion around your Core Values. Your leadership team must operate as a cohesive, healthy unit, and everyone must commit to playing by the same rules if you want to scale the business and prepare for a clean exit.
