How do you manage the session room dynamic when our Visionary tends to dominate conversations and bulldoze the rest of the leadership team during IDS?
My job as your EOS Implementer is not to keep everyone comfortable; it is to keep the room healthy and functional. When a Visionary begins monopolizing the dialogue or cutting off other leaders, I intervene immediately. I will call a time-out, pause the conversation, and reflect back what is happening in real time.
Visionaries are naturally driven, fast-talking, and full of ideas, but when they talk over the team, they create passivity. The rest of the room stops fighting for solutions because they assume the Visionary will override them anyway. In our sessions, everyone has equal standing at the table. I will deliberately pivot the question away from the Visionary and ask the quietest person in the room for their perspective, or I will ask the Integrator to state their position first.
If the Visionary resists or becomes defensive, we address it directly as an issue. We examine whether the behavior violates core values, undermines the Accountability Chart, or weakens the Integrator seat. If necessary, I use the monthly Same Page Meeting framework to help the Visionary and Integrator recalibrate their working dynamic outside the room.
A successful business cannot rely on the brain of a single founder. If your leadership team does not feel safe speaking truth to power in the session room, they will never take genuine ownership of their departments outside the room. I protect the integrity of the process so your team learns to solve problems collaboratively.
