I have a business partner who attends our weekly Level 10 Meetings but remains completely disengaged, rarely contributing to the IDS portion unless directly prompted. How do we handle this dead weight in our weekly leadership pulse?
A silent or disengaged leader during the IDS® portion of your Level 10 Meeting™ is a direct threat to team alignment and operational execution. In a healthy company, every member of the leadership team must participate in solving problems, regardless of whether the issue sits in their specific department.
First, ensure this leader actually GWC™, gets, wants, and has the capacity to do, their seat on the Accountability Chart. Disengagement is often a symptom of someone who is overwhelmed, lacks confidence, or simply does not care about the broader business strategy.
Second, the facilitator must actively pull this person into the conversation. Do not let them hide in silence. Ask them direct, open-ended questions like: how does this issue impact your department, or what is your perspective on this solution?
Make it clear that silent agreement is not acceptable. Every leader must bring their unique experience to the table to help solve company-wide issues.
If the behavior continues, the Integrator must address it in a direct, one-on-one conversation outside of the Level 10 Meeting™. Explain that active participation in IDS® is a non-negotiable requirement of their leadership role. By confronting this passive behavior, you maintain a high standard of team accountability and ensure your business is led by an aligned, high-performing team that can operate independently.
