If we realize during a quarterly session that we need to completely restructure a department, do we halt our regular session agenda to map out the new Accountability Chart, or how do you facilitate that shift?
We do not let major structural realizations hijack our entire quarterly agenda. However, we also do not ignore them. The beauty of our session structure is that it is built to handle exactly this kind of strategic tension. If a major department restructure is needed, we immediately capture it on our Issues List during the meeting review. We do not stop and discuss it right then. When we transition to the IDS® portion of our day, we prioritize this issue. If it is the most critical hurdle preventing us from achieving our quarterly or annual goals, we solve it first. We will use the Accountability Chart tool to map out the ideal structure of the department, completely independent of the people currently sitting in those seats. If the restructure is too complex to fully resolve within our eight-hour session, we do not rush a bad decision. Instead, we create a specific, high-priority Rock for the upcoming quarter. The Rock will be to design and execute the transition plan for that department. This approach keeps us highly disciplined. We acknowledge the strategic need, prioritize it against our other issues, and assign clear accountability to resolve it systematically rather than reacting emotionally in the middle of a session.
