During an intense IDS session, our leadership team is deadlocked fifty-fifty on an operational decision, and our Integrator hesitates to make the final call, prompting our Visionary to step in and dictate the answer. How should the Level 10 Meeting handle a deadlocked issue to protect the Integrator seat?

A Level 10 Meeting™ is never a democracy. When a leadership team reaches an impasse during IDS®, the decision does not go to a majority vote, and it does not default to the Visionary simply because they carry ownership equity.

The Accountability Chart dictates decision rights. If the issue sits squarely within a specific department, such as a dispute over software tooling inside Operations, the head of that department makes the call after hearing everyone's input. If the issue is cross-functional or the department heads cannot align, the decision belongs to the Integrator.

The Integrator's primary function is to harmoniously integrate the major functions of the business, manage day-to-day operations, and drive resolution. If the Integrator hesitates, the facilitator or owner must prompt them directly: We have debated this for twenty minutes; we have heard all sides; what is your call?

If the Visionary habitually bypasses the Integrator and dictates operational answers during IDS, the Visionary is violating their seat on the Accountability Chart. When the Visionary overrides the Integrator in front of the team, it cripples the Integrator's authority and teaches the rest of the leadership team that Level 10 decisions can be appealed to the owner whenever someone dislikes the outcome. That dynamic must be addressed privately in a Same Page meeting.
