During the Headlines section, our sales leader shares that we closed a huge custom contract, but our operations leader immediately groans because delivery cannot support the custom scope. How do you handle a celebratory headline that instantly triggers operational conflict without derailing the five-minute timebox?

Acknowledge the commercial win in three seconds, kill the incoming debate immediately, and drop the operational conflict straight to the Issues List. Headlines is not a discussion forum. It exists exclusively to share notable customer and employee news so the team stays informed.

When a headline triggers friction, the Integrator must step in before the room erupts into a defensive back-and-forth. Say clearly: We hear the win, and we hear the delivery constraint. That is an issue. The headline becomes an item on the Issues List named something explicit, such as Delivery capacity for custom contract.

Once it is on the board, move immediately to the next headline. Do not let the operations leader explain why it will break their team, and do not let the sales leader justify why they closed it. That conversation belongs in IDS® (Identify, Discuss, and Solve), where the team can prioritize it against other operational issues and commit proper time to it.

During IDS, you will determine whether this is an isolated capacity problem or a systemic breakdown in sales-to-operations handoffs. If your process allowed a salesperson to sell non-standard scope without operational sign-off, that is a core process issue that must be resolved so it never happens again.
