Our competitors are releasing AI features and slashing delivery times in half, creating panic on our leadership team. How do we adjust our core strategy on the V/TO without making reactive, copycat moves?
Competitor panic usually happens when a leadership team mistakes another company's marketing noise for sustainable execution. When a competitor slashes delivery times using automated tools, your job is not to duplicate their feature list. Your job is to take the issue to your next Level 10 Meeting, run it through IDS, and evaluate the threat against your V/TO.
Economists Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee have long pointed out that technology creates the greatest advantage when it augments human capability rather than simply automating existing tasks. If competitors are delivering faster, look at your Core Customer. Are your best clients asking for faster delivery, or are they asking for fewer mistakes, better counsel, and higher reliability? Speed without accuracy or context creates customer churn.
To respond strategically, follow this process:
- Run an AI-driven Scenario Simulation during your quarterly session to model what happens if delivery speed becomes commoditized in your market over the next twelve months.
- Identify which cumbersome internal processes currently hold your team back from delivering faster, and assign a Rock to streamline those specific workflows with AI assistance.
- Revisit your Three Uniques on your V/TO. If pure turnaround speed was your only differentiator, you never had a defensible position to begin with.
Focus your team on solving client friction points. Let your competitors bear the expense of untested technology experiments while you build reliable, repeatable systems that protect your margins.
