We have metrics on our Level 10 scorecard that are constantly red, but because they do not relate to our quarterly Rocks, the team ignores them during IDS. How do we force action on chronic scorecard failures during our weekly meeting pulse?

When a metric is consistently red week after week and the team ignores it, you are training your leaders that underperformance is acceptable. This is a dangerous habit that erodes accountability. A red metric on your scorecard is a cry for help; it means a core process or seat is failing.

The reason teams ignore these chronic failures is often because they seem less urgent than quarterly Rocks. To force action, the facilitator must intervene.

During the scorecard review, if a metric has been red for three consecutive weeks, it must automatically be dropped to the Issues List. It cannot be bypassed.

When you reach the IDS® portion of your Level 10 Meeting™, prioritize this chronic metric as one of your top three issues. Do not let the team focus only on the easy, transactional problems. Force them to dig into the root cause of the failing metric.

Ask the seat holder what is truly preventing them from hitting their target. Is it a capacity issue, a broken system, or a lack of resources? If the metric is no longer relevant, change the goal or remove it from the scorecard. But if it is on the card, it must be hit. Keeping it red without action destroys the integrity of your meeting pulse.
